 Minecraft Add the Micro to the Macro Macro: In 2011, video gaming was increasingly focusing on online and multi-platform gaming, a response to the rise of gaming on a range of devices other than consoles.  Micro: Mojang was able to release Minecraft on a range of devices in 2011 including smart phones. This therefore allowed for the game to have a wider audience reach as there were more options for audiences to download the game onto. This allowed for the game to start to divert from its original niche audiences of coders and programmers to a more mass audience of casual gamers and people with other interests.  Representation and The Big Issue Representation: how someone, something or somewhere is presented to someone else. Who/what does The Big Issue represent and why? The Big Issue represents big social issues e.g. poverty, racism. They present issues which mainstream media doesn't normally bring attention to. They give people a voice who aren't normally given one in mainstream media or are normally represented in a negative stereotypical way. They focus on representing reality and showing issues which are relevant on a wide scale. What we see on the cover of The Big Issue has been carefully considered to convey a message which suits the ideology of the street paper. However, how we interpret a text/representation is influenced by our awareness of social, political and historical context in which the text has been created.  Minecraft Explain the impact of digitally convergent media platforms on video game production, distribution and consumption. (15) Macro: The programming language used in game development can have an impact in how it is affected by platforms and its users.  Micro: Minecraft utilized java which allowed for it to become digitally convergent and therefore allow for a wide audience to be targeted due to the game being available on a broad range of devices. Class feedback for Micro: In the case of Minecraft, their initial audience was programmers, coders and developers. By embracing  multiplatform technology like Java, Minecraft were able to extend their audience away from hardcore computer  enthusiast, towards a broader gaming audience. Java allowed players to switch between consoles: from PC, to  XBox to iOs, thus engaging a different type of gamer I.e. not one who is sat at a desktop, but who like to engage  on the move.  What is the purpose of The Big Issue? Mission: ' to dismantle poverty by creating opportunity, through self-help, social trading and business solutions.' The Big Issue launched in 1991 in response to the growing number of rough sleepers in London.  Vendors buy the magazine for £1.50 each and sell it on for £3.  More than 200 million copies of the magazine have been sold and 92,000 people have sold it.
